- You will analyse two music video and decide to what extent it is a postmodern music video. Mandatory music video: Eminem - Without Me and additional choices include Jay-Z - Moonlight, Little Mix - Black Magic, Young Thug - Wyclef Jean or Blink 182 - All the Small Thing.
in the eminem music video "without me" we see that he depicts himself as a superhero, ready to save the world. we see this for example through the use of costume as he dresses up as a hero and snatches the cd of the child as it contains explicit language. this seems to be against the steretypical postmodern music videos as narratives usually becomes negative , the bad guys win and everyone dies. in this music video there is suggestion of hope for the future instead of lack of hope, as the hero saves the young boy from the danger of :explicit language".
This idea, of the sic video being ant postmodernism is also seen in "black magic" by little mix, where at the beguinning the use of costume shows us that they are nerds,as they are wearing big black glasses and checked shirt. we also see that they have a bad time at school though the use of body language as they are not smiling or having fun, but looking sad at each other and suffering from the bullying, but at the end of the video they are seen as happy with their life and love to dance and party. i know this because of their body language as they are smiling and jumping around, suggesting they are having a good time. this suggests that there is happiness and hope for the future.

on the other hand we can see these videos as also being postmodern misuc videos.
for example in "without me" we see a range of examples of intertextuality. the opening lyrics of the song for example "two trailer park girls go round the outside" is based on a single by "malcom McLaren" mocking an underground artist.
There is also the presence of nostalgia in this music video and we can see this for example as there are references to scenes happened from the past. For example we see eminem dressed up as osama bin laden, referring to the terrosrist attacks, and we can see this as he is being chased by D12 from a tv channel.

little mix's video can alsobe seen as postmodern as it shown to be self reflective. it reflects on bullying and life for teenagers. we see this through the close up shots of the bands, which show their facial expressions and show their emotions through the development of the video.
