- Find a music video of your choice - Create a PowerPoint where you discuss the purpose the purpose of a music video and explore the ways Goodwin’s theory can be applied to the music video.
With the establishing shot we can see that 2 ladies appear in bed with eminem during the music video, and this can support goodwig's theory that there is frequently notion of looking good and enphasis on the treating of women's bodys . they are wearing really little clothes, making the audience stare at their bodys, objetifying them, like they were objects.
During this video there is a relationship between the lyrics and the visual. we can see this for example as eminem is saying that he is back to save the world.
The use of costume is also really effective as we see him wearing superhero attire and as we see him dressed up as a superhero, trying to rescue a child from buying his cd which has explicit lyrics. This highlights how he is the good guy, trying to save the world. this supports goodwig's theory that what we see in music videos is used to illustrate what the lyrics of songs are saying.
Editing is also really effective as we see text on screen which enhance the narrative of the music video, and are used to show us what eminem is trying to say through his lyrics and music videos. "word spread that our hero has returned" is an example of this as it shows how eminem is back to save the children and therefore world. he uses shot reverse shot between an old famous singer and himself, and we see this as the man dressed in white sings and then it goes back to emit dressed as a hero. this suggests that parents of children live in the past and don't understand their music.
we also find different long takes of the rapper climbing the wall of the house, suggesting he is doing something bad and illegal, as he is not entering though the front door. this suggests that he is saying that no matter where you are, if the name "Eminem" is mentioned, people will have something bad to say about him. He implies that if you are a parent and you are attempting to not allow your kid to listen to him that they will find a way to listen to him because he's so good.
